Insurance & Consumer Fraud
The firm’s attorneys have comprehensive experience in a variety of major cases involving insurance, bad faith, and consumer fraud. Lawyers in the firm have recovered in excess of $11 million for their clients since 1996 in these types of cases. Among these results is the decision in Nat’l Ins. Association v. Sockwell, 829 So. 2d 111 (Ala. 2002), a decision by the Alabama Supreme Court affirming a compensatory and punitive damage award for Ms. Betty Sockwell against her underinsured motorist insurer for $901,000. This case is believed to be the largest affirmed verdict in Colbert County since at least 1996. Much success has been achieved in a number of cases involving credit card fraud, credit disability policy claims, claims on other disability policies, claims against liability insurers for failing to defend and provide coverage, claims for banks involving fidelity bond insurance, and claims against health insurers for fraudulent practices in handling claims. Over the course of their practices, the firm’s attorneys have worked on these types of cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, which provide a perspective that the firm believes enhances the quality of representation that they can offer to clients.
